# Where did the Zoom tool go?

> The Zoom tool is now called Effect. Click Effect in the editor sidebar, or press E, for zooms, cursor settings, blurs, and highlights on one timeline. Nothing was removed.

The Zoom tool was renamed **Effect** in September 2026. Click **Effect** in the editor sidebar, or press `E`, and you will find the same zoom controls, plus cursor styling, blurs, and highlights, together on one timeline. No zoom feature was removed, and zooms already in your videos are unchanged.

## What moved where

| You are looking for | Where it is now |
| - | - |
| Add a zoom, Auto Zoom, zoom scale and target | **Effect** → **Zooms** |
| Cursor style, size, smoothing, click effects | **Effect** → **Cursor** (it was in **Zoom**) |
| Motion blur, shrink camera during zooms | **Effect** → **Zooms** → **Advanced zoom settings** |
| Blur and highlight | **Effect** (they used to be in **Overlay**) |
| Media, text, stickers, sound effects | **Overlay** (unchanged) |

## Keyboard shortcuts

* `E` opens **Effect**.
* `Z` adds a zoom to the selected range or at the playhead while **Effect** is open.
* `X` splits the selected zoom at the playhead.

The full list is in [Keyboard shortcuts](/docs/help/tips/keyboard-shortcuts).

## I don't see Cursor settings in Effect

**Cursor** settings only appear for recordings made with the Tella Mac or Windows app using the **Animated** or **Hidden** cursor mode. If you recorded with the **System** cursor, or with the web app or Chrome extension, the pointer is already part of the video and there is nothing to restyle, so the section is hidden. See [Customize the animated cursor](/docs/help/editing/customize-animated-cursor).

## Effect asks me to record my screen or add media

Zooms apply to the footage in a layout's **Screen** slot. On a camera-only clip there is nothing to zoom into until a [media layout](/docs/help/editing/use-media) puts an image or video there. To zoom in on your camera instead, use a punch-in, which is a **Layout** option: see [Punch in (zoom in) on your camera](/docs/help/tips/punch-in-zoom-in-on-your-camera).
