# Publish a video to social media

> Post a Tella video straight to YouTube, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook from Share → Publish, to several platforms at once, without downloading and re-uploading it.

Tella posts your video straight to YouTube, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, X, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook: click **Share**, open the **Publish** tab, pick your platforms, and click **Publish**. Tella exports the video once and uploads it to every platform you chose, under your own accounts.

## Publish a video

1. Open the video and click **Share**. You can also open **Share** from the video's menu in your library.
2. Open the **Publish** tab.
3. Under **1. Destinations**, click each platform you want to post to. A platform you haven't connected yet says **Connect** when you hover it: click it, approve Tella in the tab that opens, and come back. See [Connect your social accounts](/docs/help/integrations/connect-social-accounts). A platform your video can't go to is greyed out: hover it to see why.
4. Under **2. Post details**, write the **Title** and **Description**. They start as the video's own title and description.
5. Under **3. Export settings**, choose the size, frame rate, speed and subtitles of the video that gets uploaded.
6. Click **Publish to YouTube** (or **Publish to 3 platforms**, and so on).

The button reads **Preparing video…** while Tella exports the video, then **Publishing…** while it hands the video to each platform. A line for each platform shows **Publishing to YouTube…**, then **Published to YouTube** with a **View** button that opens the post.

## Preview your post before publishing

The right half of the **Publish** tab shows a **Preview** of the post on each platform you picked, with a tab for each one. It uses the text you wrote for that platform and the name of the account you're posting as.

* **TikTok**, **YouTube Shorts**, **Instagram Reels**, **Instagram Stories** and **Facebook Stories** show on a phone screen, under the buttons and captions the app draws over the video, so you can check nothing important is covered. Hover the preview to fade them out. A vertical video on **LinkedIn** shows this way too.
* **YouTube**, **X**, **LinkedIn**, **Instagram** and **Facebook** posts show as they appear in a feed.

The preview is hidden when the Tella window is narrow.

<Note>Keep the dialog open until the button stops saying **Preparing video…**. Once the upload has started, you can close the dialog: publishing carries on and Tella records whether it succeeded or failed automatically. Open **Share** → **Publish** again to see the result.</Note>

## Which platforms can I publish to?

| Pick this | To post |
| - | - |
| **YouTube** | A video on your YouTube channel |
| **YouTube Shorts** | A Short on your YouTube channel |
| **LinkedIn** | A video post on your LinkedIn profile |
| **X** | A video post on your X account |
| **TikTok** | A video on your TikTok account |
| **Instagram** | A video post on your Instagram professional account |
| **Instagram Reels** | A reel, including trial reels |
| **Instagram Stories** | A story on your Instagram account |
| **Facebook** | A video post on a Facebook Page you manage |
| **Facebook Stories** | A story on a Facebook Page you manage |

Each platform has its own length, shape and file size limits. Tella checks them before it exports anything: a platform your video breaks a limit for is greyed out under **Destinations**, and hovering it says why, for example **Unavailable: landscape video**. See [Video requirements for each social platform](/docs/help/sharing/social-publishing-requirements).

## Use different text on each platform

The **All destinations** tab under **Post details** holds the title and description every platform gets. The platforms' own tabs are tucked behind it: click **All destinations** to fan them out, then open a platform's tab and edit its fields there. The rest keep following **All destinations**. Click **All destinations** again to tuck the platform tabs away. Click the reset arrow in a field's corner to go back to the shared text.

A platform's tab is also where you:

* Tag accounts: type `@` in the description on **X** to tag an account, or on **YouTube** to tag a channel by its handle. LinkedIn doesn't let apps tag people or Pages, so `@` stays plain text there.
* Choose **Who can see it**, on platforms that offer more than one audience. Tella starts every platform on its most public option, so check this before you publish.
* Set the options only one platform has, like YouTube chapters, Instagram trial reels, or TikTok's posting form.

Stories don't show a title or description. On **Instagram Stories** and **Facebook Stories**, the text only names the publication inside Tella.

## Subtitles on social posts

Turn on **Burn subtitles into the video** under **Export settings** to draw the subtitles into the video on every platform.

YouTube and YouTube Shorts can also take the transcript as a separate caption track that viewers turn on and off: **Publish subtitles file** is on by default when you publish to YouTube. The other platforms don't take a caption track, so burn subtitles in if you want them there.

If the video has [translated subtitles](/docs/help/editing/translate-subtitles), you can choose which language to burn in under **Subtitle language**, and which tracks YouTube gets under **Subtitle tracks**: **Original** (your transcript) and each translation. Every track is chosen until you change it.

## Publish the same video again

Once a publish has finished, the button reads **Publish again to YouTube**. Publishing again creates a second post: Tella doesn't edit or delete the first one.

If a publish fails, the platform's line shows an error. If your connected Google account has no YouTube channel, the message tells you to create one on YouTube, then publish again. Other failures show **Couldn't publish to YouTube. Try again.** (or the platform you chose). See [Why did my video fail to publish?](/docs/help/sharing/social-publishing-failed).

## Who can publish a video?

Anyone who can edit the video. The post goes to the social account that the person publishing has connected, not to the video owner's account. Viewers don't see the **Publish** tab.

Publishing doesn't send the export email you get from **Download**.

## Publish from an AI agent or the API

Your AI assistant can publish too, through the Tella MCP server or the public API. See [Publish to social media with the API or MCP](/docs/help/integrations/publish-with-the-api-and-mcp).
