# Fix “Hardware acceleration isn’t available” in the editor

> The editor needs your browser’s graphics acceleration. Turn on “Use graphics acceleration when available” in your browser’s System settings, relaunch, then click Try again.

The editor shows **Hardware acceleration isn’t available** when your browser won’t give it access to your computer’s graphics. In most cases graphics acceleration is turned off in the browser: turn it on, relaunch the browser, then click **Try again**. Your video and edits are safe.

The editor draws your video preview with your computer’s graphics processor (GPU) through a browser feature called WebGPU. When the browser can’t hand out a GPU, the preview can’t start.

## Turn on graphics acceleration in your browser

Open your browser’s settings page, turn the setting on, then fully quit and reopen the browser. Closing the tab is not enough.

| Browser | Open this page | Turn on |
| - | - | - |
| Chrome | `chrome://settings/system` | **Use graphics acceleration when available** |
| Microsoft Edge | `edge://settings/system` | **Use graphics acceleration when available** |
| Brave | `brave://settings/system` | **Use graphics acceleration when available** |
| Opera | `opera://settings`, then search for “hardware acceleration” | **Use hardware acceleration when available** |
| Firefox | Settings → General → Performance | Uncheck **Use recommended performance settings**, then check **Use hardware acceleration when available** |

If you can’t find the setting, search your browser settings for “hardware acceleration” or “graphics acceleration”.

After relaunching, open your video in the editor again and click **Try again**.

## Check whether your browser can use your graphics

If acceleration is already on, check what the browser itself reports. In Chrome, Edge, Brave or Opera:

1. Open `chrome://gpu` (`edge://gpu` in Edge, `brave://gpu` in Brave).
2. Under **Graphics Feature Status**, find **WebGPU**.
3. **Hardware accelerated** means the browser can run the editor; relaunch the browser and click **Try again**. **Disabled** or **Unavailable** means the browser has turned graphics off for your computer — continue with the steps below.

## Update your browser and graphics drivers

Browsers turn graphics off on computers whose graphics drivers are too old or known to crash. Updating usually turns them back on.

1. Update your browser to the latest version and relaunch it.
2. Update your graphics drivers:
   * **Windows:** install the latest driver from your graphics maker (Intel, AMD or NVIDIA) or your laptop maker, or run **Windows Update** and install any optional driver updates.
   * **Mac:** install the latest macOS update from **System Settings → General → Software Update**.
3. Restart your computer, then open the editor and click **Try again**.

If your computer has two graphics processors (common on Windows laptops), plug the laptop into power. Some laptops switch off the stronger GPU on battery.

## The editor in a virtual machine or remote desktop

The editor isn’t supported in virtual machines (such as Parallels, VMware or VirtualBox), remote desktop sessions (such as Windows Remote Desktop or Citrix), or cloud PCs. These usually don’t give the browser a real GPU. Open Tella in a browser directly on your own computer instead.

## Hardware acceleration on Linux

Chrome and Brave on Linux only turn on the graphics feature the editor needs for recent Intel and NVIDIA GPUs. On other GPUs, including AMD and older Intel, it stays off even with hardware acceleration on, but you can turn it on yourself:

1. Make sure hardware acceleration is on (see the table above) and relaunch your browser.
2. Open `chrome://flags/#force-enable-webgpu-interop` (`brave://flags/#force-enable-webgpu-interop` in Brave), set it to **Enabled**, and relaunch.
3. If the editor still doesn’t load, also set `chrome://flags/#enable-vulkan` to **Enabled** and relaunch.

Firefox on Linux doesn’t support the editor yet. Use Chrome instead.

## Still seeing the error?

Click **Contact support** on the error screen and tell us which browser and computer you’re using and what `chrome://gpu` shows for **WebGPU**. You can still watch and share your video from its share page while we look into it.
