The editor shows Your video preview stopped working when your browser loses its connection to your computer’s graphics while you edit. Click Try again to restart the preview. Your video and edits are safe — nothing you changed is lost.

Why did my preview stop?

The editor draws your video with your computer’s graphics processor (GPU). The browser can lose access to it when:
  • the graphics driver restarts or crashes
  • the computer wakes from sleep, or a monitor is plugged in or unplugged
  • the computer is short on memory or the GPU is busy with other apps, such as games, video calls or other editing apps
  • the browser’s own graphics process crashes
The editor restarts the preview by itself after most of these. You only see this message when that automatic restart didn’t work.

Get the preview back

  1. Click Try again.
  2. If the message comes back, fully quit your browser (not just the tab), reopen it, and open your video again.
  3. If it still won’t start, restart your computer.

Stop it from happening again

If the preview stops more than once:
  1. Close other browser tabs and apps that use a lot of graphics or memory, such as video calls, games, or other video editors.
  2. Turn on Low-res mode in the toolbar below the video. It plays smaller copies of your video while you edit, which uses much less graphics memory. Your shared and exported video stays full quality. See Edit faster with low-res mode.
  3. Update your browser and your graphics drivers, then restart your computer. On Windows, get the latest driver from your graphics maker (Intel, AMD or NVIDIA) or your laptop maker; on a Mac, install the latest macOS update.
  4. On a laptop, plug into power.

The message changed to “Hardware acceleration isn’t available”

That means the browser didn’t give the editor any graphics at all after restarting. Follow Fix “Hardware acceleration isn’t available”.

Still happening?

Ask the support assistant to open a bug report, and say what you were doing when the preview stopped (playing, scrubbing, adding an effect) and whether it happens on every video.
