The speed button in the editor’s player controls (1.0x by default, from 0.8x to 8.0x) only changes how fast the video plays for you while you edit. It does not change the video’s length, the file you download, or the speed viewers see; those always play at 1x unless you change them separately:
Use the editor speed to review footage quickly or slow it down to find precise cut points.
Change the editor playback speed
-
Open your video in the Tella editor.
-
Look for the playback speed indicator (displayed as 1.0x by default) in the player controls below the video.
-
Click it and choose a speed.
Tella remembers the last speed you chose and uses it the next time you open the editor.
Change the speed with the keyboard
Press Arrow Up to step up to the next faster speed and Arrow Down to step down to the next slower one.
Which playback speeds are available?
You can choose from the following playback speeds to suit your editing needs:
-
0.8x
-
0.9x
-
1.0x (Default)
-
1.1x
-
1.2x
-
1.5x
-
1.8x
-
2.0x
-
3.0x
-
5.0x
-

Does the audio change speed too?
Yes. The audio plays at the selected speed, which makes it easier to hear pauses, filler words, and other audio cues.
Tips for using playback speed
Combine with the timeline: Use playback speed alongside the timeline zoom controls for maximum precision. Slow down playback and zoom in on the timeline to make frame-perfect edits.
Switch speeds as needed: You can change the playback speed at any time during editing. There’s no need to stick with one speed - adjust it based on what you’re working on. Last modified on September 28, 2026
