Workspace owners on Tella Premium connect custom domains in Settings → Domain, so shared videos and playlists appear on your own URL, like videos.yourdomain.com. You add a DNS record (or let a supported provider add it automatically), then Tella verifies it. A workspace can connect up to 25 domains and choose which one each video or playlist uses.

Which plan do I need for a custom domain?

Premium. On other plans you can set up one domain, but it won’t go live until you upgrade.

How much do additional domains cost?

Premium includes one custom domain. Each additional domain costs $10/month, or $8/month on annual billing, and is added to your workspace’s Premium subscription. When you add one, you tick a box agreeing to the charge, and the prorated amount for the current billing period is charged right away. Removing a domain credits the unused time to your next invoice. Every domain in a workspace shares its branding, CTA buttons, and members. If a brand or client needs its own, see Should I add another custom domain or create a new workspace? Additional domains need an active Premium subscription: during a Premium trial you can connect only the included domain. Enterprise Premium workspaces have their domains covered by their contract.
Only workspace owners can configure a custom domain. Other workspace members see the page in read-only mode and can see which owner to contact.

1. Open domain settings

  1. Log in to your Tella account.
  2. Click your workspace name in the top-left corner.
  3. Go to Settings → Domain.
  4. Click Add domain.

2. Choose your domain type

You’ll be asked to choose between two options:
  • Subdomain: use a subdomain on your website. Example: videos.yourdomain.com
  • Root domain: use a spare domain that you aren’t using for your main website. Example: yourcustomdomain.com
Most users choose a subdomain because it’s easier to set up alongside your main site.

3. Enter your domain

Type in the subdomain or domain you’d like to use, such as videos.yourdomain.com. If this is an additional domain, tick the box to agree to its monthly charge. Then click Add domain.

4. Set up DNS

After you add the domain, Tella checks whether your DNS provider supports automatic setup.

Set up automatically

If you see Automatic DNS setup available:
  1. Click Connect with followed by your DNS provider’s name, for example Connect with Cloudflare.
  2. Review and approve the DNS changes with your provider.
  3. Wait while Tella redirects you to Domain and verifies the setup.
Watch the automatic setup from start to finish:
Automatic setup uses Domain Connect and is available for Cloudflare-managed root domains and subdomains. More providers, including Vercel, are coming soon. If you prefer to add the records yourself, click Show manual DNS instructions.

Set up manually

If automatic setup isn’t available, Tella shows the exact DNS record to add with your domain provider. Which record you need depends on the domain type you chose: Subdomain (for example videos.yourdomain.com): Root domain (for example yourcustomdomain.com):
If you set up Cloudflare manually, set the record’s proxy status to DNS only (proxy disabled).
If the domain is already used by another site, Tella may ask for an additional verification record (usually a TXT record) to prove you own it. Add it to the domain you want to use for Tella. Adding it to your main website’s domain would remove that domain from the other site.

5. Verify your domain

Once you’ve added the DNS record:
  1. Go back to Tella.
  2. Click the refresh button next to the domain (Check status).
  3. The status badge changes from Pending to Verified once the DNS is active. Misconfigured means the DNS record doesn’t point to Tella yet.

6. Share videos from your domain

Now when you share a video from your Tella workspace, it’s hosted on your custom domain. This keeps your links branded and consistent with your website or company identity.

Choose the default domain

The Default domain setting in Settings → Domain decides which domain share links use unless a video or playlist picks another. It can be any connected domain or tella.tv. The first domain you connect becomes the default. The domain marked Default in the list is the current one. Videos open on every connected domain, so changing the default doesn’t break links you’ve already shared.

Use a different domain for one video or playlist

  • Video: open the video’s Share dialog. In the Link field, click the domain at the start of the link and pick another one. Workspace default follows the default domain setting.
  • Playlist: open the playlist’s Share dialog, go to Publish, and click the domain at the start of the link.
Choosing a domain per video or playlist is a Premium feature, available to workspace members who can edit the video or playlist.

Remove a domain

Click the trash icon next to the domain and confirm with Remove. Links on that domain stop working, and videos and playlists that used it share on your default domain instead. If you removed the default domain, links fall back to tella.tv until you choose a new default.
