Single-word captions show only the word being spoken. Use them when you want fast, social-style captions instead of multi-word subtitle lines.

Turn on single-word captions

  1. Open your video in the Tella editor.
  2. Click Subs in the toolbar.
  3. Open the Style tab.
  4. Click the settings icon on your selected subtitle style.
  5. Turn on Single-word captions.
Your editor preview updates immediately. The setting also applies when someone watches the shared video and when you export the video with burned-in subtitles. To return to multi-word subtitle lines, turn Single-word captions off.
Single-word captions and Word-by-word highlighting are different. Single-word captions show one word at a time. Word-by-word highlighting keeps a full subtitle line visible and emphasizes the current word, and is available for the Backdrop style.
