Re-record replaces a single clip with a new recording and leaves the rest of your video untouched. Click Redo in the editor’s left toolbar (Cmd + Option + R) or choose Re-record from the clip’s ⋯ menu. It deletes that clip’s current recording and all edits made to it.
When should I use re-record?
Use re-record when one clip needs fixing and the rest of the video is fine, for example:
- You made a mistake in a specific clip.
- You want to update information or visuals in one part of your video.
To swap out only part of a clip, split it first and re-record the part you want to replace. See Replace a section of your video.
How to re-record a clip
- Open your video in the Tella editor and select the clip you want to replace.
- Click Redo in the left toolbar (Cmd + Option + R), or open the clip’s ⋯ menu in the clip strip and choose Re-record.
- Tella asks Re-record this clip? Click Re-record to confirm.
- Record the new clip. Your new recording replaces the selected clip in the timeline, and the rest of your video stays unchanged.
Confirming Re-record this clip? deletes the current recording and all edits made to that clip. The rest of your video is untouched.
Which recorder opens when I re-record?
It depends on the Recorder setting in Settings > Preferences (shown on Mac and Windows):
- Always ask: Tella asks How do you want to re-record? Choose Tella for Mac or Tella for Windows to open the desktop app, or choose Your browser and click Continue to use Tella’s web recorder.
- macOS app or Windows app: the desktop app opens so you can re-record the clip there.
- Web app: Tella’s web recorder opens in your browser.
In the web recorder, click Record to start. To include your screen, click Share screen and pick what to share, then record as usual. Last modified on September 28, 2026
