Yes. Add recordings as clips to play them in sequence, or add a separate camera video over an existing recording from Overlay → Media. To show separate recordings at the same time, use a media layout or media overlay. Adding both as timeline clips plays them one after another instead.

Join two videos one after another

  1. Open the video in the editor and click Add clip.
  2. Choose Select from existing to open the Library sidebar. Browse or search for a video by title, then pick a clip from it. Or choose Upload a clip to add a file from your computer, or Record new clip.
The new clip lands at the end of the timeline; drag it to reorder. To put it in the middle of an existing clip, split that clip first. See Replace a section of your video and Use clips. Uploading files needs a paid plan; see Upload existing videos.

Why can’t I stack my camera on top of a video I uploaded?

When you record screen and camera together in Tella, the clip contains two tracks, and layouts arrange those tracks: picture-in-picture, side-by-side, TV presenter, and so on. An uploaded file, or a screen-only or camera-only recording, is a single track. Layouts can only arrange tracks that belong to the same clip, and one clip cannot be layered on top of another. That is why two clips always play in sequence.

Show one video inside the other with a media layout

Every layout has a Screen slot and a Camera slot, and either slot can hold a video file as media (B-roll). This works on any clip, including uploaded videos and camera-only recordings:
  1. Add the first video as a clip (record it in Tella or upload it).
  2. Click Layout, drag across the time range where both should show, and pick a two-slot arrangement from the Media presets.
  3. Upload the second video, or pick it from the Media Library, for the empty slot.
For example, on a camera clip recorded in Tella, put an external screen recording in the Screen slot. On an uploaded screen recording, put a separately recorded talking-head file in the Camera slot. The media plays from the start of the section you put it in and is not synced to the clip automatically. To line them up, right-click the layout card and choose Trim media to set where the media starts. The media’s own sound is mixed in on top of the clip’s audio; use Adjust volume or Mute audio from the same menu to balance or silence it.

Can I add a camera corner after recording?

Yes. Open Overlay → Media and upload a separately recorded camera video, then move it to a corner and resize it on the canvas. The media overlay sits over your existing recording for the time you choose; it does not add a camera track to the original clip. Select the overlay to Trim it or change its Volume.

I forgot to share my screen (or turn on my camera). Can I add it afterwards?

Not to the same clip. You can re-record the clip with both sources on, or record the missing part separately and put it in the other slot with a media layout as described above. On a camera clip, a screen recording placed in the Screen slot keeps your camera on screen while it plays.

Can I add a voice-over or an audio file to an existing video?

You can add an audio file, but you cannot record a voice-over onto a clip inside Tella.
  • Audio file at a specific point: open Overlay → Sound effects and upload the file, or drag the audio file onto the timeline where it should start. It is mixed alongside your microphone audio, and you can move it and change its duration. See Add sound effects.
  • Music under the whole video: use background music, which plays quietly under everything and fades in and out.
  • Narration recorded in Tella: record your microphone at the same time as your screen, or re-record the clip. To narrate a video you already have, play it on your screen while you record screen + camera in Tella, and you capture the video, your voice, and your camera in one take.

Record both together next time

The simplest way to get picture-in-picture or side-by-side is to record screen and camera in one go with the web app, Mac app, Windows app, or Chrome extension, with both sources turned on. Every layout then works without any lining up, and you can re-record any single clip later.
