Choose Auto, HD (1080p), or 4K (2160p) in the video player’s Quality menu to change playback quality on a shared video or embed. 4K playback is available for videos on Premium when a source recording is larger than the video’s canvas.
Change playback quality
In Safari, playback quality is selected automatically; eligible Premium videos have no manual Quality menu. In other browsers:
- Open the shared video or embedded player and show its playback controls.
- Click the quality button, which shows Auto, HD, or 4K. In a narrow player, open the More menu and choose Quality instead.
- Choose the quality you want:
- 4K (2160p) — the higher-resolution version.
- HD (1080p) — the standard version.
- Auto — let the player switch quality automatically.
Your browser remembers your selection across videos and reloads when local storage is available. If storage is blocked, such as in some embeds, the player starts with Auto.
Why don’t I see a 4K option?
If you’re watching an eligible Premium video in Safari, you won’t see a manual quality menu. Safari plays the video natively and selects quality automatically.
4K playback requires the video’s creator or workspace to have an active Premium subscription. Viewers do not need their own Premium subscription to watch an eligible video in 4K.
The video also needs at least one source recording larger than its canvas. If all recordings are the same size as the canvas or smaller, Tella doesn’t offer the quality switch just to upscale them.
For an eligible video without Premium, its creator and editors see a locked 4K (2160p) option with a Premium badge. Clicking it opens billing settings. Other viewers continue to see the standard player without that upgrade option.
Does playback quality change my download?
The Quality menu changes playback, not your export settings. To choose HD or 4K for a downloaded file, click Download in the editor and choose HD or 4K under Size. See share and download a video. Last modified on October 9, 2026
