Comments let viewers leave feedback and questions on your video’s view page, either as a regular comment or pinned to a timestamp. Comments are on by default for new videos, and you can turn them off per video in Share → Viewer settings.

Turn comments on or off

  1. Open your video in the editor and click Share in the top right
  2. Click Viewer settings
  3. Toggle Comments on or off
To change the default for new videos, go to Settings → Preferences and toggle Show comments. Once enabled, viewers will see a comment button and a comments tab when watching your video.

Leave a comment

Viewers can leave comments in two ways:

Regular comment

  1. Click the comment button
  2. Click the clock icon (Remove timestamp) if a timestamp is shown, then type your comment in the text field
  3. Click the up-arrow button (Post comment) to post, or press Enter. Use Shift + Enter for a new line.

Timestamped comment

  1. Navigate to the specific moment in the video where you want to comment
  2. Click the comment button
  3. Check the timestamp beside the clock icon. If no timestamp is shown, click the clock icon (Add timestamp).
  4. Type your comment
  5. Click the up-arrow button (Post comment) to post, or press Enter. Use Shift + Enter for a new line.
Tella adds the timestamp to your comment so others can jump to that exact moment in the video.

Reply to, react to, edit, or delete comments

  • Replying to comments: Click Reply on any comment, type your response, then click Reply again or press Cmd + Enter on Apple devices or Ctrl + Enter elsewhere.
  • Adding reactions: Click the reaction icon to add an emoji reaction to any comment.
  • Editing comments: Click edit on your own comment, make your changes, then click Save or use the same keyboard shortcut.
  • Deleting comments: Click delete to remove your own comment from the thread.

Comment notifications

Video creators receive email notifications whenever someone leaves a comment on their video. Click View comment in the email to open the video with the Comments tab selected. You can turn these emails off per video with the Comment notifications toggle in Viewer settings.

Managing comments as a creator

As the video creator or editor, you have additional moderation capabilities:
  • View all comments left on your video
  • Reply to any comment
  • Delete any comment (including those from other users)
  • See when comments were posted

Anonymous comments

Viewers who are not logged in to Tella will appear as “Anonymous” when they comment. You can still reply to, react to, or delete these comments.
