- Can edit: the member can edit the video and change collaborator roles on the video.
- Can view: the member can watch the video but cannot make changes. This is useful when you don’t want the video public or viewer downloads are off.
Can I edit another member’s video?
Yes, if the video’s creator or an existing editor gives you Can edit access. Being in the same workspace does not by itself make you an editor of every video. If you have a free Viewer seat, a workspace owner must upgrade it to a paid Member seat first; see upgrading a viewer to editor.Edit a video together
Everyone with Can edit access can open and edit the same video at the same time. Tella syncs each person’s saved changes as they work, so you don’t need to wait for another editor to finish or unlock the video. The avatars in the top-right corner show who has access and who is currently online. When Saving… appears beside them, Tella is still saving your latest changes. Wait for it to disappear before closing the editor.Add a team member to a single video
- Open the video you want to add your teammate to.
- Click the + icon in the top right, next to View. The Share menu opens.
- Under Invite people, type your teammate’s name or email and select them. They are added to Who has access as Can view.
- To let them edit, open their role dropdown and choose Can edit.
Add a team member to multiple videos at once
You can add a team member as an editor or viewer to several videos in one step.- Go to your video library
- Select the videos you want to add the team member to
- Click Add user in the toolbar that appears
- Search for and select the workspace member you want to add
- Choose the role: Can edit or Can view
- Click Add editor or Add viewer to confirm
Change a team member’s role
Both the video creator and any editor on the video can change an existing collaborator’s role between Can edit and Can view.- Open the video
- Click the collaborator avatars (next to the + icon in the top right) to open the Share menu
- Find the team member under Who has access
- Select the new role: Can edit or Can view
You cannot change your own role or change the role of the video creator.
Upgrading a viewer to editor
If a workspace member has a Viewer license (a free seat), they can only view videos. To give a Viewer editing access, their workspace license must first be upgraded to Member (a paid seat). Here’s how it works:- Workspace owners can upgrade the license directly from the share modal. When you select Can edit for a Viewer, Tella shows an “Upgrade to paid seat?” confirmation. Confirming upgrades their workspace license to Member and grants them editor access on the video. This adds a billable seat to your subscription.
- Non-owners see a tooltip on the Viewer’s role explaining that you need to contact the workspace owner to upgrade the user’s license.
Transfer ownership of a video
If you’re the creator of a video, you can hand ownership over to another workspace member, for example, when you’re leaving a project or someone else has taken it over. After the transfer, the new owner becomes the Creator and you’re kept on the video as an Editor, so you don’t lose access.- Open the video and click the collaborator avatars (next to the + icon in the top right) to open the Share menu
- If the person you’re transferring to isn’t already a collaborator, add them as an Editor first
- Open their access dropdown and select Transfer ownership
- Confirm the transfer
Only the current creator can transfer ownership, and only to another member of the same workspace. You can’t transfer ownership to yourself, to a viewer-license user, or across workspaces.
