Yes. In the Tella web app and the Chrome extension, you can replace your camera background with a solid color or an image (choose a preset or upload your own), or blur it so the focus stays on you. Open the background options from the background button in the recorder’s camera preview. This works entirely in-browser and does not require a real green screen — though a plain, evenly-lit background behind you still gives the cleanest edges.

Other options

If you’re on the Mac app or want to hide your background another way, here are some alternatives:
  1. For Mac users, open the camera menu using the arrow next to the camera button, then choose an option under Apple Effects. Use Portrait to blur your background. On macOS 15 or later, Background may also be available for the selected camera, letting you choose a color gradient, system wallpaper, or your own photo. If you do not see the effect you want, click More effects… or try another camera. Learn more about macOS video effects on Apple’s support site.
  2. Use a third-party virtual camera app.
  3. Use a physical backdrop: A simple solid-colored curtain or portable backdrop behind you creates a clean, professional look without any software.
  4. Use Tella’s layouts strategically: Choose layouts where your camera is smaller or positioned in a corner, making your background less prominent.
