If your iPhone isn’t showing up as a camera option in Tella, this is a common macOS Continuity Camera issue rather than a Tella issue. Tella uses Apple’s built-in Continuity Camera to connect to your iPhone - so if macOS loses the connection, Tella can’t see it either.

Quick fix: Restart your devices

In most cases, a simple restart resolves the issue:
  1. Restart your Mac.
  2. Restart your iPhone.
  3. Open Tella and check if your iPhone appears as a camera source.
This fixes the problem the majority of the time.

Still not working?

If a restart doesn’t help, check the following:
  • Connecting via Cable - Plug your phone into your computer and try selecting it as a camera source
  • Same Apple ID - Your Mac and iPhone must be signed into the same Apple ID.
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth - Both must be enabled on both devices. They don’t need to be on the same Wi-Fi network, but Wi-Fi and Bluetooth need to be on.
  • iPhone Continuity Camera - On your iPhone, go to Settings → General → AirPlay & Continuity and make sure Continuity Camera is turned on.
  • Software versions - Your Mac needs macOS Ventura (13) or later, and your iPhone needs iOS 16 or later.
  • Close other apps - If another app (like Zoom or FaceTime) is using your iPhone as a camera, it won’t be available in Tella. Quit those apps first.

If nothing’s working

Try resetting the Continuity Camera connection:
  1. On your iPhone, go to Settings → General → AirPlay & Continuity.
  2. Toggle Continuity Camera off, wait a few seconds, then toggle it back on.
  3. Restart both devices again.
