You can move Loom videos into Tella three ways: paste a public Loom video or folder link into Settings → Migrate, export private videos, Spaces, or a whole library with the free Tella Transfer desktop app, or batch upload MP4s you already have. Teams with 20 or more paid Loom seats can apply for a Loom buyout credit, and smaller teams get 30% off with code LOOM30.

Which Loom migration method should I use?

You can combine them. None of them skips videos it has already brought in: re-running the same selection or pasting the same link again creates a second copy, so keep track of which batches are done.

Import public Loom videos into Tella

  1. In Loom, set the videos you want to migrate to public, or put them all into a public Loom folder. You can make them private again after the import finishes.
  2. Copy the video’s Loom share or embed link, a playlist link containing ?v=, or a public folder link. A playlist link imports only the video identified by its v parameter.
  3. In Tella, go to Workspace Name > Settings > Migrate.
  4. Paste the link under Import from Loom, then click Import.
Everything from one import lands in a new playlist called Loom Import [date] in your library. This playlist is private to you, even if you run the import inside a shared workspace. A folder link imports its subfolders too, into that same playlist. Leaving, refreshing, or revisiting the Migrate page doesn’t stop the import: the page picks up the in-flight import and keeps showing its progress. Upload time depends on how many videos you’re migrating.
Settings → Migrate is available to workspace owners and members. Viewers don’t see it.
Not with Import from Loom. Links in the format loom.com/spaces/... are private to your Loom workspace. Click Get Tella Transfer above the link importer to move videos from Spaces without making them public. Alternatively, move or copy the videos to a folder in My Library, share that folder with a public link, then paste the loom.com/share/folder/... link under Import from Loom.

Export private videos or your full Loom library with Tella Transfer

Tella Transfer is a free desktop app for macOS, Windows, and Linux that exports one video, a folder, or your entire Loom library. It can access private videos and Loom Spaces without making them public first.

Download Tella Transfer

Available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
  1. Go to Settings → Migrate and click Get Tella Transfer above Import from Loom. The Tella Transfer download page opens in a new tab.
  2. Download and open Tella Transfer, then sign in to Loom in the login window on your computer.
  3. Select a video, a folder, or your full library. Selecting a folder includes its subfolders.
  4. Save the videos as MP4 files, or import them directly into Tella by signing in to the Tella workspace the videos should land in.
Your Loom credentials stay on your computer, and Tella Transfer only reads your Loom account. It doesn’t rename, move, or delete anything. You don’t need a Tella account if you only want to save MP4 files. When you import into Tella, each Loom folder becomes a playlist, grouped under an Imported from Loom playlist group. Videos import as your own, so run Transfer as the person who should own the videos.

Does Tella Transfer keep my Loom folders?

Only when you import into Tella, where each Loom folder becomes a playlist. When you save MP4s to your computer, Tella Transfer writes every selected video directly into the destination folder and doesn’t recreate your Loom folder structure on disk. Tella Transfer doesn’t save a resume checkpoint or skip files already in the destination. If you restart the same selection after cancelling or running out of space, it downloads those videos again and replaces files with the same names.

Download one Loom folder, or only unfiled videos

To download one Loom folder:
  1. Click the Folders view.
  2. Clear any existing selection with the X in the selection bar.
  3. Select the checkbox beside the folder. Selecting a folder also includes videos in its subfolders.
  4. Click Download.
To download only videos that aren’t in a Loom folder:
  1. Use the checkbox in the table header to select all videos.
  2. Click the Folders view.
  3. Deselect every top-level folder using the checkbox beside its name. This also deselects its subfolders.
  4. The remaining selection contains only unfiled videos. Click Download.

Fix “couldn’t download” errors in Tella Transfer

  1. Quit Tella Transfer completely.
  2. Download and reinstall the latest version.
  3. Disconnect your Loom account in Transfer, then sign in again.
  4. Retry with a single video to confirm downloads are working before selecting your full library.

Download a single Loom video without a Tella account

The free Loom downloader turns any public Loom video into an MP4, with no account or software to install. It accepts Loom share links, embed links, and playlist links that include a video ID.

Free Loom Video Downloader

Paste a public Loom link and get a downloadable MP4.
  1. Copy the public video’s Loom share or embed URL, or a playlist URL that contains ?v= followed by the video ID.
  2. Paste the link into the downloader and click Download MP4.
  3. Save the MP4 to your device. The download link works for 1 hour.
After the downloader prepares your video, you can also click Edit in Tella. Create your Tella account, and Tella opens the Migrate page with the Loom link filled in and starts importing the video automatically.
The downloader only works with public videos. A playlist link downloads only the video identified by its v parameter, and folder links aren’t supported. Videos longer than 30 minutes or larger than 2 GB are too large for the free tool; use Tella Transfer for those and for private videos.

Upload Loom MP4s you already have

If you saved MP4s with Tella Transfer or Loom’s own download, open Settings → Migrate and click Select videos to upload under Upload multiple videos. Each file can be up to 5 GB, and each becomes its own video. Batch upload needs a paid plan. See batch upload.

Migrate with the Tella API

For a scripted migration, use the public API:
  1. Create a source upload with POST /v1/sources.
  2. PUT the MP4 bytes to the uploadUrl it returns.
  3. Create the video from that sourceId with POST /v1/videos.
  4. Create playlists with POST /v1/playlists and add videos to them with POST /v1/playlists/{id}/videos.
This is the route to take if you want to preserve a folder structure that Transfer doesn’t, or attach tags as you go.
Enterprise customers with large libraries can ask for a white-glove migration. Contact sales.

What comes across from Loom, and what doesn’t?

Comes across:
  • The video itself and its title.
  • With Tella Transfer imports, the folder structure: each Loom folder becomes a playlist.
Doesn’t come across:
  • Comments, reactions, and view analytics. Tella analytics start fresh.
  • Loom transcripts, captions, AI titles, summaries, and chapters. Tella transcribes each imported video again, so captions come back, but edits you made to Loom’s transcript don’t.
  • Link access settings and passwords. Check the access level on imported videos before sharing them.
  • Thumbnails and CTAs.

How do Loom features map to Tella?

Loom’s role names and link settings vary by plan. Map anything not listed to the closest Tella option.

Plan a whole-workspace migration

Before exporting anything, work out what has to move.
  1. List where videos live: each member’s My Library, shared folders, and Spaces. Loom keeps each person’s library private to them, so plan on each creator exporting their own videos unless they’ve shared them into folders or Spaces an admin can reach.
  2. Search your help center, docs, CRM, onboarding emails, and wiki for loom.com/share/ and loom.com/embed/ URLs. This list drives the link replacement step.
  3. Decide what stays behind. Videos nobody has opened in months can stay on Loom, where their links keep working after you downgrade.

Recreate Loom folders and Spaces as playlists

Imports land in import playlists. Move videos into their final home once each batch finishes.
  1. Create the playlists you want to keep, and put related ones into playlist groups where Loom used nested folders.
  2. For each Loom Space, create a playlist and set Who can access to Specific people or Everyone in workspace. Videos everyone should see can also go to Workspace videos, the team-wide library that doesn’t need a playlist.
  3. Open an import playlist, bulk select videos, and add them to the right playlists and tags.
  4. Remove the videos from the import playlists once they’re filed, and delete the empty import playlists.

Move Loom members and roles

  1. Set the default video access for new recordings in Settings → Security first, so videos members record land with the right visibility.
  2. Invite members from Settings → Members. Pending invites aren’t billed; Owner and Member seats are charged when accepted.
  3. If you used SSO on Loom, set up SSO and SCIM so members join with their work login and offboard automatically. Both are self-service add-ons on Pro and Premium and included on Enterprise.
Loom URLs can’t be redirected to Tella, so every link you care about has to be replaced by hand. Old Loom links keep working after you downgrade, so this doesn’t have to finish before the switch.
  1. Work through your list of Loom URLs, customer-facing links and embeds first.
  2. For each video, open the Tella video’s share menu, set the access level, and copy the link or embed code. See share and download a video.
  3. Keep a map of old Loom URL → new Tella URL for auditing and rollback.
  4. If you embed on your own sites, set default embed domains so videos only play where you expect.
Where Loom embeds used to live: Notion, Linear, Mintlify, Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, email, Circle, and Framer. Platforms that support oEmbed, such as Notion, render a pasted Tella link automatically.

Replace your Loom integrations

Handle videos recorded during the migration

People keep recording while you migrate, and downgrading Loom doesn’t stop them: Loom’s free plan still allows a limited number of short recordings. Two ways to handle it:
  • Set a cutoff date. Announce the day new videos go in Tella. After it, run one last Tella Transfer pass for videos created since your first export.
  • Import as you go. For teams that can’t set a hard cutoff, have each creator paste new Loom links into Settings → Migrate until they’ve fully moved.

Wind down your Loom account

  1. Confirm nobody is still recording in Loom and that new videos show up in Tella’s analytics.
  2. Downgrade the Loom plan. Existing videos and share links stay viewable, so anything you didn’t replace keeps working. Check Loom’s current plan terms before you downgrade.
  3. Don’t delete the Loom account or videos until nothing external points to them.
  4. Claim your switching offer (below).
Then have everyone install the Mac app, Windows app, or Chrome extension and record a short first video (see getting started), add product names to the transcript dictionary, and show the team Auto Cut, Auto Layouts, and zooms. For complex migrations (thousands of videos, compliance requirements, deep integrations), get in touch.

Get a Loom buyout credit (20 or more seats)

Teams with at least 20 paid Loom seats can apply to have the unused balance of an active annual Loom plan credited to their first annual Tella invoice. The Tella plan must be Pro, Premium, or Enterprise, billed annually; monthly plans aren’t eligible.

Apply for a Loom buyout

Estimate your credit, check the eligibility rules, and apply online.
  1. Open the Loom buyout page and click Apply for a buyout.
  2. Enter your paid Loom seats and Loom renewal date.
  3. Attach your most recent Loom invoice as a PDF, PNG, or JPG up to 4 MB.
  4. Click Apply. Tella confirms your eligibility and credit amount within one business day.
The credit is calculated from the unused part of your Loom term when your Tella annual plan starts. It can’t exceed your first annual Tella invoice, be paid out in cash, carry forward, or be combined with LOOM30 or another promotion.

Get 30% off with LOOM30 (fewer than 20 seats)

Use code LOOM30 at checkout to get 30% off your first 12 months on any Tella plan. It can’t be combined with the Loom buyout.

Claim the Loom switcher offer

30% off for 12 months with code LOOM30.
